Sustainable Dining In Greater Seattle Area At It’s Best And Worth The Short Drive

I have to give a HUGE shout-out to my new favorite restaurant, Terracotta Red Bistro, in Everett.

If you love the Wild Ginger, then you are in for a real treat. I had dinner here Friday evening and I must say I am impressed. Not only is the food fabulous, but this place knows the meaning of sustainable. Chef Jimmy Liang did his internship at the Herbfarm in Woodinville as well as his time at Serafina in Seattle.Ā  His emphasis is on locally grown produce, seafood and free range meats in an Asian fusion style.

The restaurant has a modern flair with high ceilings and ample lounge seating while one waits for a table to open up in this wildly popular eatery. I recommend reservations on weekends and busy times of the year. The gracious hostess is happy to bring your favorite libation to the lounge to quench your thirst. There is a full bar where one can order from the menu if the wait gets to be too long and bar seats open up. I prefer to wait for a table and my wait was short because I called ahead and made reservations for 2.

The first thing I noticed when seated is that the restaurant uses all china, glass and cloth, including the napkins. Water comes in a large glass bottle that is left on the table and refilled when needed. The menu is substantial and includes a fresh sheet. They serve lunch and dinner and have a happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-6pm.

After looking at the menu, trying to decide between so many yummy sounding dishes, we decided on an Indonesian Corn Fritter as our starter. It was spicy and sweet at the same time. For our main dishes, Mongolian Scallion Beef, Spicy Chicken and Si Chuan String Beans as well as Brown Rice. The meats were so tender and all of the veggies were cooked to perfection. The chef gets their beef from Painted Hills or Snake River, both grass fed. The chicken is free range. The beans were to die for. I could have eaten the entire bowl by myself.

The portions are very generous and prices so much more reasonable than say, The Wild Ginger.

As with everyone else we saw leaving with full stomachs, we had some leftovers to take. I was so happy to see that their sustainable philosophy carries through to their take out. Brown paper bags and paper cartons. No plastic or Styrofoam here. Yeah!!
